The 2010 season was full of injury, loss, perseverance and triumph for the New York Yankees. And while they were edged out for the AL East title by the Tampa Bay Rays, they will be making their 14th trip in the last 15 seasons to the post-season.

The New York Yankees celebrated their 2010 home opener by surviving a ninth-inning rally by the Los Angeles Angels to take a 7-5 victory in the first of a three-game set from Yankee Stadium. Andy Petite was the starting pitcher and escaped the game with a 1-0 record to begin the season. Derek Jeter went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI’s. A-Rod batted in a pair of runs and Jorge Posada’s double in the seventh moved him past Mickey Mantle into seventh place on the Yanks’ all-time list with 345. Former Yankee centerfielder Bernie Williams threw out the first pitch.
