2010 New York Yankees Journey to the Playoffs

The 2010 season was full of injury, loss, perseverance and triumph for the New York Yankees. And while they were edged out for the AL East title by the Tampa Bay Rays, they will be making their 14th trip in the last 15 seasons to the post-season.

After a 12 game homerless streak, Alex Rodriguez finally hit #600 off of Toronto Blue Jays starter Shaun Marcum on August 4, 2010 at Yankee Stadium.

The milestone home run came exactly 3 years to the day after A-Rod hit his 500th home run.

Bleacher Creatures

The “Bleacher Creatures” are a notorious group of season ticket holders who occupied Section 39 in the right field bleachers at the old Yankee Stadium, and occupy Section 203 in the new one.  They bleed Yankee blue, are relentless hecklers of the opposing teams right fielders and fans brave enough to cheer for the road team.

World Series Win 09

The New York Yankees finish out their first season at the new Yankee stadium with a World Series Victory.  The Bronx Bombers did it in style defeating the defending champs the Philadelphia Phillies for a 7-3 win in Game 6.  It was the 27 World Championship for the New York Yankees franchise.

Yankees Home Opener 2010

The New York Yankees celebrated their 2010 home opener by surviving a ninth-inning rally by the Los Angeles Angels to take a 7-5 victory in the first of a three-game set from Yankee Stadium.  Andy Petite was the starting pitcher and escaped the game with a 1-0 record to begin the season.  Derek Jeter went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI’s.  A-Rod batted in a pair of runs and Jorge Posada’s double in the seventh moved him past Mickey Mantle into seventh place on the Yanks’ all-time list with 345.  Former Yankee centerfielder Bernie Williams threw out the first pitch.
